The Jordan Community

In 2018, Pastor Raju, a pastor supported through Helping Hands India, became aware of a Leper colony near his hometown in Andhra Pradesh. After visiting, his heart was stirred and he realized that he needed to care for these people who had been cast out from their community due to their illnesses. There he met Daniel, a man living with leprosy, but healthy enough to care for the others who’s afflictions are worse than his. Raju and his family began to bring bread from his uncle’s bakery to help supplement what these people were able to get through begging. Soon after, Raju brought Pastor George and Winston, who was visiting from the United States, to the colony to meet the 43 families that lived there. Immediately taken with the needs of these people, Winston and Diane, along with their family, pledged to start supporting this community and provide for their needs.

They had been labeled as lepers, but we saw them as brothers and sisters. Shortly after committing to support these people, we decided to call their village the Jordan Community, after the river of Jordan, where Naaman was cleansed of his leprosy after washing in it seven times. Their identity is found in Christ, not in leprosy.

In the two years since, many people have come alongside us to support this faithful and loving community. Pastor Raju, along with his church family, now bring monthly rations and a small stipend, along with clean bandages and medical supplies to the Jordan Community. The members of this village are no longer begging to support their families. We praise God for the hearts of those who have given generously to support His people. This is an ongoing ministry. If you feel led, please consider supporting the beautiful people of the Jordan Community and their families.
